Greece Reduced VAT on Dozens of Goods
Several supermarket shelf products have had VAT cut from 24% to 13% in Greece. Popular goods such as olive oil, meat and fish, cocoa and generally standardized non-fresh food are now in the lower VAT bracket. The lower rate have also been applied to some of these goods at restaurants and cafes but not all. Coffee and tea for example now have 13% VAT in the supermarket but have 24% VAT at cafes. Greek Authorities announced this week that the reduced rates came into effect on Monday, May 20, 2019.
